Where to Buy Recreational Weed in the US

If you’re 21+, there are 23 states that have operational recreational weed retail sales where ordering online is available:

Why Mailing Isn’t an Option

Marijuana is still considered a Schedule I controlled substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act. 

Because of this, couriers like UPS, FedEx, and DHL don’t ship weed. It’s also a federal crime to ship marijuana between two states, even if both states are legal. 

The only legal way to get recreational weed delivered is through a state-licensed courier operating inside a legal state.

Buying Recreational Weed Online in New Jersey

Adult-use cannabis sales in New Jersey are licensed by the Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) under the CREAMM Act. Per the CRC rules, adults 21 and older with a valid ID document can purchase, regardless of whether you’re a NJ resident or not. 

Some rules to understand from the CRC are that you can only purchase up to 1 ounce of usable cannabis, 4g of concentrates, or 1,000mg of THC edibles per transaction, and that you can only carry up to 6 ounces statewide.

How to Spot an Illegal Online Seller

If you’re unsure whether or not you’re buying recreational weed from a legal seller, look for these red flags: 

  • No displayed state license number. Every legal dispensary should have one displayed at its shop. 
  • Claims to ship THC cannabis to all 50 states. Shipping cannabis across state lines is illegal and prohibited by USPS, UPS, and FedEx. 
  • Allows payments by wire, gift card, crypto, or personal Venmo/Cash App. Legit cannabis dispensaries will only accept payment from debit cards, cashless ATM, and cash. 

Only has a social media or Telegram menu with prices below market value. If it’s too good to be true, it most probably is.

No. USPS, UPS, and FedEx all prohibit shipping marijuana. Under 18 U.S.C. § 1716, cannabis falls under “nonmailable” items.
